Our favorite IMBA epic ride yet! Two thumbs ???? up to IMBA on this one! This Grand Targhee ski resort trail starts right from the base of the mountain so no need to take the lift. Rental bikes are available at Habitat bike shop at the base of the mountain.
Twenty-five extremely well built miles of flowy singletrack with gorgeous views of the Tetons and Teton Canyon. We loved seeing the Tetons from the West after spending 5 nights in Grand Teton NP on the East side of the range. The remoteness and solitude make the Eastern side so unique!
We started off riding across ski hills and under chair lifts as we made our way up the mountain through a series of smooth switchbacks through meadows of wild flowers. We were rewarded periodically by views of the Tetons through the trees. The climb up 38 Special with its 38 switchbacks (Julie counted!) was 3 miles and 1200 feet of elevation but the view at the top of Teton Canyon Overlook (almost 10K ft elevation) made it well worth it! Then a fast descent down Peaked and Andy’s trails to the base to finish off at the village with local beers and appetizers.
We only had time for 16 miles, which was everything on the northeast side of the trail system, but we will be back for more riding and snowboarding in the winter! The resort gets 500 inches of snow a year and is a quieter, cheaper alternative to Jackson Hole on the other side of the range.
The resort also lets RVs stay in their lot for $22, or there is the Teton Canyon campground a few miles down the road! Happy riding!
